The game in Usultan was quite interesting. Leader Salvadorenos (4-0) played at the court of 8th ranked Santiagueno (1-3). Salvadorenos defeated Santiagueno 79-69 on Sunday. Salvadorenos outrebounded Santiagueno 53-34 including a 38-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naturalized Mali power forward Ibrahima Traore (208-2005, college: Utah) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 23 rebounds. Guard Diego Minero (187-2007) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Salvadorenos' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) answered with 28 points and 6 rebounds for Santiagueno. Salvadorenos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Metapan. Santiagueno at the other side dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. Salvadorenos is looking forward to face Brujos (#6) in Izalco in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Santiagueno will have a break next round.
The game in Cojutepeque was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked A.Lobos (3-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Cojute (1-4). A.Lobos did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 81-62. Naturalized American center Marc Montavious (202-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and Jerome Savoy chipped in 24 points. A.Lobos' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Puerto Rican guard Hector Maldonado (185-1991) responded with 28 points and 5 rebounds. A.Lobos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Santa Tecla. Cojute lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. A.Lobos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cojute will play on the road against the league's leader Metapan (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.
